Vox Media is company driven by talent, technology, and design. We develop the highest quality content, conversations, and applications for an audience of over 22 million passionate people around the world.

After four years of steady growth, we're a well-funded company, supported by the same folks who invested in Facebook and Etsy, with business expertise and a successful business model to go with our editorial and technology foundation.

We got our start innovating in sports media with SB Nation, the largest and fastest-growing network of fan-centric online sports communities. Last year, we moved into technology news with The Verge. Next up is the video games category with Polygon. It is an exciting time to be at Vox Media. Come join us.

We're seeking a creative, experienced, consumer-focused product manager for Polygon. You'll join our small product team to take hands-on ownership of the Polygon product roadmap. This role will blend creativity, analytics and direct user interaction to help make things people love. Ideal candidates will be folks who enjoy getting their hands dirty to work on every phase of product development.

You're a visionary able to articulate and argue for your ideas. You're also pragmatic and capable of building consensus to help craft and deliver compelling, successful products.

Big Responsibilities:

  • Own Polygon as a product and maintain the site's backlog
  • Work with editorial team to define features and enhancements and improve workflows
  • Identify market opportunities and define product vision and strategy
  • Prioritize features; maintain and execute road maps
  • Shepherd improvements through the product lifecycle, from concept to release to measurement
  • Collect and integrate usability studies, research and member feedback
  • Utilize analytics to continuously improve products
  • Develop storyboards and mockups to effectively communicate product ideas to the team
  • Document requirements by authoring user stories and wire frames to facilitate development
  • Collaborate with the small cross-functional teams and actively answer product related questions
  • Keep stakeholders involved by gathering input and communicating progress
  • Verify product features as acceptable before launch
  • Coordinate and communicate rollout of new features internally and externally
  • Contribute to the overall Vox products roadmap
  • Help set goals with metrics and be responsible for finding the best ways to achieve them

Mad skills:

  • You're real good on a whiteboard
  • Demonstrated ability to build great products on time
  • Understand how to facilitate rapid iteration of products
  • Trust the self-managed product team to kick ass; tell them "what" needs to be done and not "how" to do it
  • Ability to develop new approaches to complex problems
  • Effectively multi-task and balance multiple priorities
  • Ability to communicate goals and build consensus
  • Deep understanding of usability and experience in building websites for a broad audience
  • Fluency with the Photoshop, Omnigraffle, or other design tools
  • Strong analytical background with deep experience using tools such as Google Analytics or Omniture
  • Experience in online advertising, traffic-acquisition (SEO/SEM) and online media publishing
  • Exceptionally strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication

Ideally you also have:

  • Experience working on or managing small development teams with remote team members
  • Fluency in A/B and multivariate testing
  • Experience in testing and quality assurance
  • More involved development or programming experience
  • Previous start-up experience
  • Knack for keeping up with design trends in blogs, web apps and social/online media

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with agile and lean frameworks, specifically Scrum
  • Being a member of an online community—especially SB Nation or The Verge
  • Being an active blogger
